Common Precious Metals

On your normal, every-day trip to the local metal scrap yard you will normally not run into the worries of having to sell some of your more common precious metals…

A precious metal is defined as being is a rare, naturally occurring metallic chemical element of high economic value, which is not radioactive. Chemically, the precious metals are less reactive than most elements, have high lustre, are softer or more ductile, and have higher melting points than other metals. In plain english for us scrappers to understand; very shiney and valuable metals such as gold, silver, platinum and palladium.

The 2 main reasons why you will never encounter this issue are: you just do not have any of these metals to begin with; or your local scrap yard just does not buy them. For the latter, it will be more common for your smaller scrap yards not to actually be able to afford to buy large amounts of either of these metals, and they do not have the technology to verify the authenticity of the metals themselves.

If you are fortunate enough to have some these precious metals to scrap in, try doing a search for these metals, or check out the links below to see if any buyers are currently listed with us. Happy scrapping!
